Founded in 1914 by the current Owner David Gordon's Grandfather Wilson Gordon, this long-established company still remains a family concern.
Like many Family-Owned Operators established in the early years of Motor Vehicles W Gordon & Sons were a general carrier delivering coal around the locality. The Company's first passengers were miners who needed transport to one of the local Coal Mines at Thurcroft, then before long this increased to taking workers to collieries all around the Rotherham area.
David's father Robert joined the business in the 1920's, along with David's Uncle Roger who was involved until his retirement, when he was bought out by his brother Robert Gordon.
For many years the Company concentrated on Contract work, School transport, Day trip's and Private hire as well as operating commercially for a time.
It was a desire to build the Company's position in the Day excursion market that led to the purchase of Billie's Coaches of Mexborough and Riley's of Rotherham. Further consolidation came with the purchase of Hague's of Sheffield bringing the combined fleet to 32 Vehicles, and leading to the creation of "WGS" W Gordon & sons group identity.
The Company initially built it's reputation by providing affordable, reliable transport and was well known for their wheelchair accessible vehicles which they had in the fleet, and the high standard of experience and care that all drivers maintained when working with passengers with mobility needs.
In the 1990's the Company began to specialise in Corporate Hospitality mainly Professional Football Teams and other Professional Sports Organizations.

Unmatched Experience
With over a century in the industry, we know coach hire better than anyone. We believe in putting the customers first, ensuring satisfaction in every journey.
All of our Executive Wheelchair accessible vehicles have hydraulic lifts, to allow easy access for wheelchair users and limited mobility passengers.
They can be used just with the lift for the less mobile, or wheelchair users can remain in their wheelchair and be securely clamped once on board.
The maximum dimensions for any wheelchair or small scooter is 775mm wide x 1200mm in length, the maximum weight that the lift can hold is 350Kgs which includes the wheelchair/scooter and it's occupant, plus an assistant.
We will accept lightweight manual wheelchairs with a maximum weight of 20Kgs, and small mobility scooters/ powered wheelchairs (subject to them breaking down into separate parts) with each part weighing no more than 20Kgs for stowage in the luggage compartments underneath the coach.
The disabled passenger must be accompanied by a companion who is able to dismantle and reassemble the powered wheelchair/scooter to enable stowage.
We also accept officially trained and approved assistance dogs, when accompanying it's owner or user. Unfortunately, other animals are not allowed to travel due to health and safety issues.

Customer-Centric Approach
All our drivers are fully trained in the use of the hydraulic lifts and in customer care and safety, and they are all enhanced DBS checked.
These Vehicles can accommodate from 1 Clamped Wheelchair with 49 seated passengers, to a maximum of 6 Clamped Wheelchairs or 4 small Scooters with 33 seated passengers or anything in-between.
All our Accessible Vehicles have:

- Toilet and Washroom facilities
- PA Systems
- Seat belts
- Tinted Windows
Please Note
Our drivers are unable to dismantle or reassemble powered wheelchairs or scooters that have been approved for travel.
All Powered wheelchairs & scooters must operate by dry cell batteries only.
Our staff and drivers are not permitted to assist customers with their eating, drinking or personal care, at comfort stops or during the journey.
Health and safety considerations also prevent us from lifting or carrying you and providing you with medical services.
